Development of Adobe Creative Suite 7, and all plans of future creative suites have been discontinued. The only option going forward will be the Creative Cloud (CC) subscription model.
This move by Adobe is adding to the precedent that a lot of software is going to begin following if WE THE CONSUMER allow it. This is our opportunity to stop this trend while we can.
Placing software into this new cloud-model is detrimental the freelance industry. This is a way for Adobe and other corporate giants to establish higher entry-barriers. This move nickel-and-dimes designers and the mom and pop, check-to-check designers will ultimately pay the price. The multi-national, multi-billion dollar corporations that have infinite amounts of resources will only grow more powerful while more and more independent start-ups fold.
Don’t fall for the bait and switch; in the short term, the subscription model looks to be a decent value but over time the only entity that is benefiting from this is Adobe. After the introductory stages, the price of the subscription is bound to increase significantly.
While some may prefer cloud-based, subscription software – companies like Adobe must come to learn (through our petition and more importantly our buying power) that the cloud subscription option is nice to have available for some, but MANDATORY SUBSCRIPTION MODELS ARE UNACCEPTABLE.
Please sign the petition and let Adobe know that the rising number of Open Source software and desktop publishing options available are realistic alternatives to their scheme that we are willing to explore.
