Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove has been on to Movies to Watch list for quite some time, but I've been putting it off because I thought the concept was a little far-fetched. After viewing the film, I was quite surprised at the coverage of this Bohemian Grove group in the regular press throughout the past that even included charming illustrations in some mainstream magazines in the late 60s early 70s. Apparently, there was even a book, by a former German chancellor, Helmut Schmidt - titled Men in Powers that chronicled some of the goings on inside the Bohemian Grove "retreats."As one of his earlier films, there's some revealing moments in the film about Jones as an activist. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Jones protesting Bush on his doorstep, about 1:55:00 into the movie. A cheery sentimentality overwhelmed as I watched.
Another aspect that was interesting (and disturbing) was the actual ritual ceremony at the Grove called The Creation of Care. (Like the high priest proclaiming to the Stone Deity that "the autumn of our grove or the springtime of Your plan.") The video quality is quite poor, but the subtitled audio during this part of the film is worth watching for better insight into the role the occult plays in these rituals carried out in secret by the elite, men-only club at Bohemian Grove.
