Transporting the Soul

All this talk of "better times" got me to thinking - if I could choose any time and place throughout time to visit, I'd have such a hard time deciding between these four choices:

January 16, 1958, Chicago's Pershing Hotel to witness one of the greatest trios of all time arranged by one of the world's most under-appreciated talents, Ahmad Jamal...

or

March 9,1958, Hackensack, NJ to sit in the studio with Cannonball Adderley, Hank and Sam Jones, Miles Davis, and Art Blakey to experience my all time favorite recording being made live...

or

Sunday, June 25, 1961, The Village Vanguard in New York City to absorb my soul in the beauty of Evans, LaFaro and Motian and be blown away by the virtuoso LaFaro displays when he delivers Solar on his bass...

and then still, there's

September 17, 1962, Sound Makers studio in NYC to experience in person the energy between three of my musical heroes that transformed itself into one of the greatest albums ever made...

Ani DiFranco once said, "People used to make records, as in the record of an event, the event of people playing music in a room..." When I listen to any of the music I posted here, the meaning of that statement is very clear.
