GROW!

The recent blog from the In City Times got me thinking of the horrific HR 875 bill and the struggle of the self-sustaining human being these days. With all the recent hubbub about low-income housing over the past few days, I couldn't help but reminisce about what a comrade of mine was trying to build in the low-income areas of New York city (and eventually abroad). I wrote a piece for him a few years back and due to a falling-out, we lost touch and the piece never made it up on his site. Despite our differences, I do believe that he was on to something good.

They say that money makes the world go round. That big business runs things nowadays. Soon the economy will be globalized and small businesses won’t stand a chance against the corporate monopoly infrastructure. The FDA is so corrupted by the dollars of these monopolies that our food is allowed to be polluted with genetically engineered hormones and additives - all for the sake of profit boosting. Cancer rates are increasing at an alarming rate. Pharmaceutical companies are benefiting from these side-effects. We have become a drug-orientated society. Slaves to the system. They say our society depends on oil to move – so whoever controls the oil controls the motion of the masses. War will always prevail for this reason. We are doomed to a future controlled by power-hungry capitalists and drug induced complacency.

WRONG!

There was a time when society did not depend on oil. A time before genetically mutated food and drink. A time when medicines for our ailments could be found growing in nature all around us. There was a time when mankind was capable to fend for himself. Urban Farmers invite you to imagine a world of the future where we the people actually control our own destinies. A world where human beings are educated to GROW their own sources of food, energy, and income – right on the very homes in which they live.

It may sound like a premise for a science-fiction novel, but Noah Graj, President of Urban Farmers has devoted his life to making this a reality. Through extensive researching, he has developed an idea that is long overdue and potentially revolutionary in trends pertaining to social change.

“The idea that urban centers can exist as their own source of agricultural production is not seen as a possibility in our current living situation. Urban Farmers exists to change that,” stated Mr. Graj. He went on to say, “Through Urban Farming in geodesic domes built on rooftops in economically challenged areas, we can enhance the lives of those who need it most. With simple, inexpensive additions to everyday life, neglected urban dwellers can rise above their economic situation and improve their health and lifestyles. Giving power and cultural stability back to the people.”

UrbanFarmers.org is encouraging the world to live healthy lives by providing individuals with the knowledge and tools to feed themselves. They see the poor economic and physical state in which most of us tread through as an opportunity for tremendous GROWTH. This is the crucial time and place to unite philanthropic thinking with a healthier standard of living and the ultimate opportunity to connect all facets of the consumer’s life (entertainment, community, and retail) under the umbrella of pure and healthy living, vital to the well-being and future of our world.
